Universal announces an upgrade to the vent valve of their ULT level control system.

The diaphragm of the ULT-54-BA vent valves had a short operating span requiring frequent replacement.

We have determined that the main cause of this problem is the syrup buildup on the underside of the diaphragm and as the syrup hardened it caused the diaphragm to crack and leak air and thereby not operating the valve properly.

To remedy this problem we have redesigned the valve as follows:

  1. We have changed to a larger diameter piston with a "U" cup seal instead of using the existing diaphragm to open the valve. The larger diameter piston also lowers the pressure necessary to operate the valve.
  2. We have kept the same diaphragm, in same location, however in this new design it is only used as a barrier, to keep any syrup that may be entrained in the venting air from building up on the piston. This way the "sweep" area of the piston and "U" cup can be properly lubricated without any contamination from syrup. The "U" cup will last considerably longer as well as the diaphragm since it is only acting as a barrier and has no operating pressure to cause any wear.
All new vent valves will be of this new design. The new model designation is ULT-54-C.

For those who have the model ULT-54-BA vent valves we can upgrade these valves by replacing with the new design parts at the upper part of the existing valve, see the drawing. We suggest the following:

We can also upgrade any kits you may have in stock. You will only need a "U" cup and a new drawing to upgrade any ULT-54-BA kit to a ULT-54-C kit.
